Miami, Florida, USA

From sun-kissed beaches to coral reefs, Miami-Dade's waters teem with a mosaic of habitats where human populations and species find equilibrium.

The MarineGEO site of Miami-Dade County is based in the heart of Florida, where a mosaic of diverse habitats, including some of the world's most productive ecosystems (e.g., mangroves, seagrass areas, coral reefs) foster high marine biodiversity. Its geographic location, characterized by a consistently tropical climate and abundant natural resources, supports productive fisheries, recreation, and tourism. Thus, the high biodiversity and ecosystem services found in this area makes this key location a “natural laboratory” for understanding the consequences of anthropogenic impacts.

Our team is made up of three assistant professors, two postdocs, two graduate and two undergraduate students from the University of Miami and NOAA, which have expertise in marine ecology, conservation, DNA sequencing, geospatial mapping, and computer modeling.
