Ross Whippo

Central Biological Research Technician

Ross Whippo, TMON’s Central Biological Research Technician, works to help coordinate and administer TMON’s research projects from its base at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) in Edgewater, Maryland. Whippo has extensive experience as a marine biodiversity research technician, having previously working at marine labs in the United States and Canada, including Friday Harbor Laboratories, Bamfield Marine Sciences Center, and the Hakai Institute. He is an avid and experienced scientific diver, and currently serves on the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) Membership Committee. Whippo received his MSc in Zoology from the University of British Columbia in 2013, studying seagrass epifaunal communities in Barkley Sound, BC.
