The Hakai Institute's Calvert Ecological Observatory (HICEO) is located on Canada's Central Coast between the Pacific Ocean and coastal temperate rainforest of British Columbia. The rich waters of the 1,230 square kilometer Hakai Luxvbalis Conservancy that surround the HICEO are some of the most productive in the world and encompass a wide range of marine habitats including kelp forests, seagrass meadows, estuaries, and rocky island archipelagos.
