Christian Tettelbach in the water

Christian is a marine ecologist and avid scuba diver. He is broadly interested in climate change and how its related stressors (i.e., ocean acidification, increased sea surface temperature, sea level rise, etc.) will impact marine ecosystems. Christian is also interested in conservation and restoration, particularly in relation to marine foundation species. His current research focuses on the individual and combined effects of ocean acidification, low light, and invasive herbivory on eelgrass in San Francisco Bay. He has also contributed to a number projects involving restoration of the Peconic bay scallop in Long Island, NY. Christian received his BS from UC Berkeley in 2016 and his MS from San Francisco State University in 2021.

Christian is a contributor to the San Francisco Bay Observatory.

The Marine Global Earth Observatory (MarineGEO), directed by the Smithsonian’s Tennenbaum Marine Observatories Network (TMON), is a network of partners researching biodiversity as the heart of healthy, productive, coastal ecosystems, where marine life and people are concentrated and interact most. MarineGEO marshals the Smithsonian’s leadership in discovery and convening power to advance knowledge useful to decision-makers in supporting innovative management and protection of marine life.
