Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute's Bocas del Toro Research Station
Carolina César Ávila began working in 2019 as one of the Research Technicians at MarineGEO’s Bocas del Toro site in Panama. She in charge of the maintenance and calibration the multiparameter sondes for the Weekly Physical Monitoring, as well as the long-term deployment sonde in the Bocas-STRI meteorological tower. She also leads the annual Seagrass and Coral Reefs surveys, as well as support other ongoing projects. Carolina obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Biology from Maritime International University of Panama in 2021. Her research interests include coral reef ecology and physical-chemical water monitoring. In her free time, she enjoys reading, wildlife photography and skateboarding.
