Angeleen Olson under water

Angeleen joined the Hakai Institute’s Nearshore Ecology team in 2017. Prior to this, she began her career as a marine ecologist in the Salomon Lab at Simon Fraser University studying kelp forest ecology in British Columbia (BC) specifically interested in isotopic niche theory and foraging ecology of top predators. She completed her MSc in Biology in the Juanes Lab at the University of Victoria where she discovered a passion for seagrass ecology and now spends much of her professional and recreational time in these amazing habitats. At Hakai, you will find Angeleen coordinating the LTER of nearshore habitats, in the intertidal or captaining boats in remote areas of the BC coast, and analyzing and reporting on data collected in the field.

Angeleen is a contributor to the British Columbia Central Coast Observatory.

The Marine Global Earth Observatory (MarineGEO), directed by the Smithsonian’s Tennenbaum Marine Observatories Network (TMON), is a network of partners researching biodiversity as the heart of healthy, productive, coastal ecosystems, where marine life and people are concentrated and interact most. MarineGEO marshals the Smithsonian’s leadership in discovery and convening power to advance knowledge useful to decision-makers in supporting innovative management and protection of marine life.
